Reading is a child's passport to new worlds.
Join us for the Destination Reading - Reading Around the World Book Fair on Saturday, Sept. 12th from 9am-Noon and Monday, Sept. 14th - Thursday, Sept. 17th from 7am to 6pm in the Cafetorium. (The Fair will also be open before and after the Annual Meeting.)
To get the kids excited about their reading destinations, we're having a Flag Bee. We've put 25 flags on display in the lobby. The child who identifies the most flags, will win a $50 gift certificate to use in the Book Fair. Feel free to have some fun with your child, looking up flags on the internet, in a book or atlas or asking family and classmates for clues. The ballot is attached and available in the lobby until 6pm, Friday, Sept 11th, when the contest ends. (In the event there is more than one child who identifies all 25 clues, we'll draw one winner.)
On Saturday, Sept. 12th from 9am - Noon, bring your kids in their jammies or best international attire, for the grand opening in the Cafetorium (Little Gym), using the doors from the parking lot into the Little Gym. Friends, neighbors and soccer teammates are welcome. We'll provide a light breakfast, parents to read to the little ones, a pinata, global twister and a showing of Around the World in 80 Days. There will also be "wish boxes" for
your child's teacher, should you wish to contribute reading materials to his or her classroom. So, come leisurely shop, while your child whoops it up for reading, knowing that St. Francis gets a percentage of the proceeds!
The following week we'll be sending Ms. Porter around the world each day, for a chance at even more prizes.
In the meantime, if you can volunteer that Saturday, or Monday-Thursday from 7:45-8:45am, 3:00-4:30pm or from 4:30-6pm, let Ms. Lancaster, the school librarian, (slancast@stfrancis-school.org) or Ann Denkler, (anndenkler@aol.com), know.
